The story of Giuliano Mazzuoli begins in the early 1960s when he starts to manage the family company founded by his father Angelo in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa in 1953. The company at the time produced note pads and address books for the Florentine leather trade. In the 1970s Mazzuoli shifts his attention as well as the focus of his company towards the world of graphic arts and printing and starts to collaborate with important companies within the fashion, interior design and industrial design industries.

The experience makes Giuliano Mazzuoli want to start a brand of his own and so he launches 3.6.5. In 1993 the agenda books with the turn-page system that provides a lot of room for notes, the Stifflexible line of notebooks and agenda books with the stiff but flexible covers as well as the notebooks with wavy lines instead of straight lines are developed.

The success of these products grabs the attention of prestigious clients, among which is the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
